The renovation of the cloisters was started by diocesan priests, led by Fr. Ryszard Szkoła, who took care of the basilica before the Franciscans arrived in Wambierzyce. They had the plaster removed up to about 1.5 m and left the walls to dry.
Thanks to that, we were able to start our work right away as soon as the funds were available.
Our work was based on stratigraphic studies (cost: 50,000 PLN), carried out on the Conservator’s orders, to check for any hidden frescoes under the plaster that should be recovered and preserved.
